Concert Band Camp is for you! All students can come together and share in a variety of activities that are fun and rewarding. Challenging music, interacting with many people, and learning from Master Teachers and fellow campers will make this a memory you’ll treasure forever. Many campers return summer after summer to continue their musical and personal growth. You belong here and find your people!
During the week, you’ll be exposed to a wide variety of musical styles and genres. Solos, duets, trios, chamber music and large ensembles are part of this camp. You’ll have the opportunity to work with our incredible faculty members in instrument-specific masterclasses and sectionals where you’ll work on improving your technique, tone production and literature. You’ll also spend time perfecting the songs you will play on the final concerts.
July 9 @ 2:00 pm - July 14 @ 7:00 pm
For students completing grades 6-12; Adult Registration as commuter only and with instructor consent.
Friday, July 14 - 5pm Shell Lake Pavilion (Aderman Auditorium Rain Location)
Each day also includes elective courses where students can choose instruction in history, improvisation, conducting, bucket band, steel drums and even polka bands. Our bands are seated by ability and skills and most middle school students are placed in the Northwoods Band and most high school students are placed in the Lakeside Band. Chamber ensembles will be offered as well as ensembles like garage band percussion. Instructors may choose to provide limited individual instruction outside of scheduled time.
Placement Sessions-When you arrive in Shell Lake on Sunday, you will play for your teacher that you will work with for the entire week. Please bring the music for a piece that you have been working on. It could be a solo or etude. You should also be prepared to play a one or two octave scale in C, Bb and A. You may play these at any tempo that is comfortable for you. This screening is not intended to be scary but is a chance for your teacher to hear your skills and abilities.
Before you arrive at camp, a link will be sent for you to complete an electronic assessment of your theory skills. Students will have daily instruction in Music Theory and will be grouped with students of similar skills and knowledge.
