Organ Camp With Elizabeth Waldon

July 16 @ 2:00 pm - July 21 @ 3:00 pm

Organ camp is a brand new camp at the Shell Lake Arts Center.  This organ camp is designed for students who have achieved an intermediate level of keyboard proficiency. Whether you’ve ever sat on the organ bench or been on only a piano bench this camp is for you! Previous organ study is not required.

During the week, students will focus on daily organ lessons and practice times on a variety of organs, workshops, masterclasses, and a final recital held on a historic organ in Spooner. Other activities will include recitals by accomplished organists and field trips. Topics to be covered will include efficient practice techniques, hymn playing, organ registration, and organ building.  One of the field trips will be a chance to explore the inside of a pipe organ!

Organ shoes-If you don’t know about organ shoes, organ shoes are like dress shoes with a smooth sole and low, wide heel.  Flip flops, tennis shoes, and flat soled shoes make mastery of the pedals difficult.  Although not required, here is a site that sells organ shoes.

Screening Conversation
When students arrive to camp on Sunday, they will meet with our Master Teacher, Betsy Waldon so that she can get to know them and learn about their abilities.  Students should prepare a list of the songs they have been practicing during the past year.  They should be prepared to play a selection of less than 5 minutes on the piano or organ that they have recently been working on.  This is low pressure and intended only for Betsy to get to know you!
