Assistant Kitchen Manager

Position Title: Assistant Kitchen Manager
Position Term: June 3, 2024 to August 10, 2024 (up to 40 hours per week); Routine work hours are 1:30pm to 7pm Monday through Thursday during position term. Additional hours as needed through the remainder of the year.
Position Salary: $15.00 per hour

Position Description

The Assistant Kitchen Manager is an employee of the Shell Lake Arts Center (SLAC) and reports to the Kitchen Manager. The position assists the Kitchen Manager with the daily operation of the cafeteria to prepare and serve food and beverages to students, staff, and faculty members to ensure that stakeholders are satisfied with their dining experience.

Essential Functions

The following duties are normal for this position. This is not an all-inclusive list and other duties may be required and assigned. An individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily in order to be successful in this position.

Kitchen Management:
● Oversee Food Service Staff in the kitchen to ensure compliance with all policies, procedures and protocols of the Shell lake Arts Center and the Wisconsin Department of Public Health.
● Maintain compliance to safety standards as required by the Wisconsin Department of Public Health.
● Direct work tasks for the Food Service Staff.
● Assure time-sheets for all Food Service Staff are submitted.

Food Preparation:
● Prepare meals daily during the summer camp season.
● Set up the serving area with assistance as appropriate.
● Clean work, serving, and storage areas with assistance as appropriate.
● Prepare food for events taking place at the SLAC in summer and winter months.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Hold a valid WI certificate stating that the individual has passed a department-approved written examination on food protection practices-Certified Food Protection Manager.
  • Knowledge of cleanliness and proper handling of food products.
  • Must successfully pass criminal background and caregiver checks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience of large quantity cooking.
  • Possess strong communication and management skills
  • Possess the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of employees, students, and faculty.
  • Dependable, self-motivated with an emphasis on teamwork.
